Dealing With A Dog While Breastfeeding

You are now pregnant and you are wondering how your dog will feel now that you are having a baby. After all, you have given so much attention to your dog and now he has to share it with the arrival of a new baby. There are ways that you can help your dog adjust to changes in your household, such as having a new baby. First of all, help your dog accept your new baby. Begin by helping him interact with your baby once the baby is born. While you are breastfeeding, you can let the dog sniff your baby's cloth diaper, clothes or even your baby's feet, so the dog will get familiar with your baby's smell. Make sure your dog is gentle around your baby. Reinforce house training with your dog and make a doggy door if needed. Keeping the home sanitary for a new baby is important. Therefore, give your dog a treat if your dog is behaving well. Many times, I come to my patient's home and we have one of their animals sitting nearby whileI am teaching a new mom how to breastfeed. I find it amazing to see how they really are protecting their new baby and watching every move I make. This is the reason why I am writing this blog this evening because your pet is a very important part of your household. When a baby is born, things can get hectic. If you decide to go for a walk, take your dog too. This will show your dog that he is also much loved. Additionally, it gives everyone great exercise at the same time. Be flexible with walks and start to feed your dog at different times in the day. This will begin to teach your dog that there is a new baby in the home that requires a lot of your attention. Your dog will learn that he needs to now be patient as things have changed a little around the house. Safety needs to be in place.Create a dog zone where your dog can play in your home away from your baby. Never leave your child alone in the swing when your dog is in the room. Keep the baby off the floor when your dog is in the room. Let your dog get familiar with the new nanny that you will hire. Allow your dog to also be familiar with all the baby's equipment. In conclusion, both you and your pet will make life changes once the baby is born. Reassure your pet that both he and your baby are loved. Eventually, everyone will be happy and adjust. If you ever have any concerns about your dog's behavior, seek professional help to help guide you to solve your pet problem.I know that there is enough love in the world and in your hearts to love both your pet and your new baby.
